40 Disabled Residents Depok as Elephant Foot

A total of 40 people were spread across three districts most prone to filariasis, namely Limo, Cinere, and Tapos. Depok Government will provide free drugs to prevent transmission of the disease. "If no preventive mass, there is the possibility of filariasis will attack," he said. He hoped Depok residents free of filariasis in 2015.

           Elephantiasis disease characterized by symptoms slowly ballooning body parts. Legs look like rubber and enlarged so similar to elephantiasis. The disease is caused by a kind of worm organism mosquito-borne white thread.

Chief Medical Officer of Depok Lies Karmawati said filariasis not only attack the legs, but also members of other bodies, such as the genitals. "It usually occurs in the legs, so called elephantiasis," he said.

           Filariasis drug administration actually already been done by the government, but has not reached the target. Therefore, the government will provide the drug in bulk to all citizens of Depok on December 6, 2014. "On December 6, residents are expected to come to post the prevention of mass drug administration for filariasis drug," he said.

According to the former Director of Hospital Depok, filariasis drug should be taken five times in the first setahun.Obat taken will make the worm filariasi barren, and is unable to lay eggs in the body.
