
The existence of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's army in Indonesia traced to the establishment of a monument located in Cikopo, Bogor. This monument reads "Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof". The memorial was established to commemorate the German squadron in East Asia perished in the Battle of the Falklands, an archipelago area in South America, in 1914.
At the foot of the monument engraved inscription: »ERRICHTET VON UND EMIL THEODOR HELFFERICH 1926". Emil Helfferich (1878-1972) was a German trader who set foot in Batavia for the first time in 1903. He was also the initiator of the establishment of associations of Germans in the East Indies. His brother, Karl Theodor Helfferich (1872-1924), a prominent German politician and economist.
Based on the articles written German historian, Herwig Zahorka, brother and sister from Germany bought the land area of 900 hectares in tea plantations Sukaresmi and build on it. In 1926, they built a monument to the memory of his friends who died in World War I. The historic site is maintained by the German Embassy in Jakarta.
In front of this monument neatly lined tomb with cross headstone. In total, there are ten headstone members in the era of Hitler's Nazi forces. Eight of which includes identity, such as name and position, while the remaining two unbekannt or unknown.
Two of the ten soldiers was a U-boat crews, submarine famed Nazi Germany during World War II. They are Ob. Lt U. LI Dr. Ing. H. Haake, the crew of U-196 were killed because the submarine hit a mine in the Sunda Strait, and Ob. Lt. z. Friedrich S. Steinfeld, the crew of U-195 were killed as Allied prisoners of war in Surabaya.
