A ship carrying 36 passengers Indonesian citizen secured Malaysian Maritime Security Unit (APMM), Sunday, December 7, 2014. Security was carried out after an unidentified ship was allegedly transporting illegal immigrants and passed without going through official channels.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (Embassy) in Kuala Lumpur, the passenger ship 32 citizen Foreigners Without Permission (PATI) and four crew members. Officers also found money worth RM26 thousand.
"At present, 36 Indonesians, including six women and a one month old baby being held at a police station area Manjung, Perak," said Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in his official statement, Monday, December 8th, 2014.
Shortly after getting the report, the Indonesian Ambassador to Malayisa, Herman Prayitno, has commissioned Protection Task Team Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to meet citizens who are detained. Today, the team is said to have met with Moss APMM Commander, Capt. Razak, to ensure conditions for all citizens of Indonesia who were detained.
"36 Indonesians are certainly in good health and still have to wait for the Remand (prisoners) a maximum of 14 days," said the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, according to Capt. Razak, if the owner of the ship and its crew found guilty of transporting illegal immigrants, which concerned will be under sentence of a maximum fine of RM250 thousand or imprisonment up to five years, or both penalties are imposed as well.
Because there is a baby and a pregnant woman, Herman also then ordered the Task Team to negotiate with APMM that the three men could be released from the process and discharged by the Embassy.
"All three are currently under way to Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, the rest are still in police custody to undergo legal proceedings for violating immigration laws," he said.
