Indonesia is famous for its diverse flora and fauna, from Sabang to Merauke. In fact, often find animals endemic in this country, such as orangutans, Komodo, and Bird of Paradise for example.
Now, a collection of animal diversity of Indonesia began to grow as the discovery of a new species of bird species by researchers from abroad together with non-ministerial agencies from Indonesia. They also named the new species under the name of Sulawesi Streaked Flycatcher, in accordance with the original discovery in the island of Sulawesi.
Although relatively new, but it turns out the bird was found by local villagers about 15 years ago. They look different from the other birds. Therefore, researchers from Michigan State University, Princeton University, and the Institute of Sciences, Indonesia (LIPI) analyze it.
The bird of DNA analysis determined that Streaked Sulawesi Streaked Flycathcer a new bird species. This is evident from genetics, body shape, and the resulting sound is different from other local species.
"We are fortunate to be able to make the first record when the birds are singing," said researcher Pam Rasmussen, Assistant Curator of Animal Science and Science Breastfeeding Bird Stat University of Michigan Museum UPI.com reported pages, Wednesday, November 26th, 2014.
The researchers involved in uncovering new species hoping for special protection against Streaked Flycatcher Sulawesi habitats in forests on the Indonesian island.
"At this point, the species is not at risk of extinction. However, this may change if the farm increases its expansion in this region (forest)," Rasmussen said.
